Jacques Barzun (1907–2012) was a historian of ideas and culture and the author or editor of more than 40 books, including From Dawn to Decadence: 500 Years of Western Cultural Life, 1500 to the Present (2000). He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2003.
