Finding Your Voice

by Larry Woiwode

The novelist and short-story writer Larry Woiwode, whose 1975 book Beyond the Bedroom Wall was one of the most acclaimed works of fiction of the era, died recently in North Dakota. He lived in the state for nearly 45 years, writing and working on his organic farm. He also served, for many years, as the poet laureate of North Dakota. In our Summer 2019 issue, Woiwode remembered his development as a writer—and how he ultimately came to find his voice.
