Four Poems

Nausheen Eusuf is a PhD candidate in English at Boston University and a graduate of the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins. Her first collection, Not Elegy, But Eros, was published recently, and her poetry has appeared in Salmagundi, Southwest Review, and other journals. “How to Mourn the Dead” commemorates the 20 victims, mainly foreigners, of an ISIS terrorist attack on an upscale café and restaurant in Dhaka, Bangladesh. “India’s Daughter” and Nirbhaya (“fearless”) were epithets the media used to refer to Jyoti Singh to protect her identity; the rape of Singh led to widespread protests and a national conversation regarding violence toward women.
